Campbell Savona Musical receives 6 awards!

Tom Freeland of Campbell Savona School District informs us that the Campbell-Savona School musical from last November - Singin' In The Rain - was honored with six awards last Thursday at the Rochester Broadway Theater League's Stars of Tomorrow yearly ceremony, including:

Outstanding Production Crew
Outstanding Singing Ensemble
Outstanding Acting Ensemble
Outstanding Lead Actress - Olivia Tyler (as Kathy Seldon)
Outstanding Lead Actor - Jared Allen (as Don Lockwood)
Outstanding Musical

Thanks to their respective wins, Olivia and Jared are moving on to phase 2 and will be competing June 7th against the other division winners for a chance to participate in the National High School Musical awards in NYC - June 25-29. Tom wishes to thank everyone that was involved in making the production a huge success!

Welcome to the GST BOCES Arts in Education blog!

In addition to the GST BOCES Arts in Education web-site www.gstboces.org/iss/artsineducation/ we have now started a blog. The blog is intended to be an interactive tool for artists, teachers, parents and students who benefit from the GST BOCES Arts in Education program.

This will provide an opportunity and forum for information sharing not possible with the web-site. Since it is not humanly possible for the GST BOCES Arts in Education coordinator to attend most of the Arts in Education events that take place in regional schools, the blog will give schools a chance to make comments and submit photos to be uploaded on the page. It also has the potential to serve as an introduction and/or followup for programming that has already taken place or will take place.

Since we are just beginning, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The purpose of the BOCES Arts in Education program is to vastly improve students’ overall cultural awareness, increase their creative ability, and heighten their aesthetic sensitivity. By providing performances and residencies, students not only learn more about the arts, but also improve their self-image, gain in self-knowledge, increase their learning skills and their understanding of other people and diverse cultures.

Among the many services provided by GST BOCES is the creation of an Arts in Education Directory available for teachers and administrators who are interested in providing arts and cultural programming for their students. The directory, updated on a yearly basis, contains names, addresses and biographies of outstanding artists of various disciplines from a wide range of geographic areas, many of them local to the GST BOCES area.

The BOCES Arts in Education Specialist represents both the artist and the school in arranging for and scheduling programs that bring together the talents of artists with the needs of students.

The service is centrally coordinated for a multi-district audience to allow for cost effectiveness and efficiency through shared expenses. Boces aid is provided to assist public schools participating in this program.

This blog as well as web-site www.gstboces.org/artsineducation/ was conceived and is maintained by the BOCES Arts in Education Program Specialist to provide for schools' current information, spotlight area students, teachers, artists, administrators, programs and schools, share ideas, lesson plans, resources and other news.
Comments are welcomed and encouraged. Since the blog will be for and about our schools, we hope that students, parents, teachers, artists and administrators will enjoy and refer to it often. It is intended to be a truly interactive tool!

Congratulations to those administrators, teachers and parents who understand and appreciate the myriad ways in which the Arts can enrich and enhance the education of students.
